“Do Good”

A few years ago I heard the (true?) story of what must be history’s shortest speech ever.

It happened at a high school graduation ceremony that was running terribly late.  The building was sweltering, the program was dragging on and everyone was getting restless.  When it came to his turn to speak, the guest speaker read the room beautifully.  He went to the lectern, scanned his audience and said, “Do good!”  Then he sat down.

Perhaps that’s a good, brief message to reflect upon as we enjoy summer, particularly at a time when so many things in our world – climate, truth, kindness, reasonable debate, international relations and more – seem to be going a bit off the rails.

So why not just strive to do good – whether by taking climate action in your own corner of the world, helping someone who needs a hand or doing something else?  Put those two words onto your fridge in big bold letters; slip them into your wallet; carry them in your heart.  You’ll help make the world a better place – and you’ll feel the better for it too!
